Central Church, Swindon, Wiltshire, England
Central Church is a L.E.P. (Local Ecumenical Project) which came into being in 1978; at that time they were meeting at Trinity church building. The membership was made up from five churches - the Batist Tabernacle, Church of Christ (Broad Street), Methodist Central Hall, Sanford Street Congregational Church and Trinity Presbytarian (United Reformed Church), who had joined together some four years previous as Central Churches. The long-term vision was to have a building in the centre of Swindon, not just for use on a Sunday, but open all week for everyone to use. In 1990 Central Church moved into the Pilgrim Centre which had been built on the site of the Baptist Tabernacle, in the heart of Swindon town.
If you are able to go inside the Centre, remember to pick up the leaflet which explains the symbolism of many of the objects in the Centre, especially in the Worship Area - click on the link above to see these symbols.
