We don't have many photographs of the Whalebridge roundabout system and central island - the ones we do have were mostly taken of other things but the roundabout happened to be in the shot. We have missed our chance now as the roundabout was removed in 2011 and is mostly a pedestrianised area with a restrictive road system which prevents car drivers from going in all the directions the roundabout used to permit.

The Whalebridge roundabout was built close to where the original Whalebridge was built over the Wilts & Berks Canal; the bridge earned its name because it looked like the hump of a whale.
This roundabout had four exits and a pedestrian underpass with central island. The original underpass had three exits and sometime during the 1970s a fourth pedestrian exit from the central island was added to the Medgebury Road side - see a photograph of its construction at:
