Squirrel Carving, Thames Avenue, Swindon, Wiltshire
This sculpture was carved by Lee Dickenson from a dead oak tree as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations. Originally created in Trent Road, Haydon Wick in Swindon, it is now located outside the local parish council offices in Thames Avenue.
The artist chose to create the squirrel from the oak tree because of the creature's fondness for acorns. Over time the base rotted and now the bottom of the tree is encased in what looks like cement; part of the date has been covered during this process.
