Memorial on Akers Way Swindon, Wiltshire

The tradegy that happened on 13th September 1991 is something that devastated the families and shook Swindon.  Some children were playing on a grassed area next to Akers Way when a speeding motorist lost control of his car and ploughed into them.  Five of them died.  The pain and trauma those families went through is unimaginable.  This memorial was placed to remember those children:

Ian Thomas Lilley, aged 7
Sheree Ann Lear, aged 8
Paula Jayne Barnes, aged 15
Paul Carr, aged 16
Belinda Brown, aged 19

More information about this tragic event can be seen in an article in the local paper about the 20 year anniversary.
