The Organ Loft at The Church of St. Margaret of Antioch, Leigh Delamere, Wiltshire

Back to Inside Page

The loft is accessed via a door in the north aisle.  The steps are steep and uneven and if you look at the top of each you can see a dip where they are worn from countless people walking on them.  If you manage to stuggle up to the top you will see the organ mechanism takes up a great deal of space so it is very cramped.  Not wanting to move or climb over anything, we just stood at the top of the stairs and took these shots.  Amazingly, even this high up and out of sight, there are still elaborate decorations to the ceiling and walls and three stained glass windows.  It rather feels like you have discovered a secret place!
