William, known as Harry, was born on 5th February 1868 in Derry Hill in Wiltshire. He was the fifth of eight children born to William and Sarah. His father was a policeman with the Wilsthire Constabulary and so he moved around Wiltshire several times as a child.
Harry was an apprentice to a carpenter in Devizes in 1881 and later to a builder when the family moved to Wanborough. He then went to work in Gravesend, building houses for the workers at Tilbury Docks. He returned to Wiltshire and worked for the Great Western Railway for two years before managing a coffee shop. He spent time as a foreman carpenter for another builder before finally starting a building firm with his brother Walter.
On the 14th May 1892 Harry married Sarah Barnes, in Aldbourne, a small village a few miles from Swindon. They had five children of their own: Elsie Sarah, Dorothy Alice, Hilda Mary, Henry William, Lillian Maria, and adopted another son Fred Vizor.
The building firm prospered and built many houses in the Swindon area (including Tydeman Street) as well as further afield.
Harry was an active member of the Methodist Central Hall in Swindon (which the Tydeman Bros firm built), being the Sunday School superintedent for many years and the mission treasurer for over 25 years.
Harry died on 2nd February 1940. He was laid to rest in the Radnor Street Cemetery, Swindon.
