Lea Family History
by Donald Lea
View Chapter Index
In the late 1980s and early 1990s Don researched the Lea family history.
He wanted to follow his direct line to see how far back he could go.
What he discovered and the book he produced is, quite frankly, a
fantastic piece of work!
Most of us who research our family history concentrate our attention on Parish
Records, census reports etc - in essence the 'facts' that are available in
records offices. Don however, went to the places he discovered the
family had lived, took photographs, and 'got the feel' of the place.
His friendly personality meant he spoke to local people, many of whom could
remember family members and could give a bit of an insight into them as
people. Don also tracked down members of the family and made some good
friends along the way.
Don kept notes of what he found and as they grew he had to put them into some
sort of order. He divided the folder into sections and had his written
notes typed. He now has a very large folder packed with information,
photographs, certificates, memorabilia.
Don is pleased to share his work and have it published on the internet.
However, the work you see here is not quite the same as his folder. Due
to copyright regulations we cannot show, for example, certificates or bits of
newspapers cuttings. A note at the end of each page shows what additions
Don's folder contains.
Remember that most of the text was written in the early 1990s, so some of it is
out of date - as with all families ours has lost and gained members.
